My morning ritual first involves a warming drink that preps the systems (particularly the digestive!) before I delve into scrumptious breakfast creations ~ I have a cup of warm water with lime (cooling for Vata/Pitta) or lemon juice, raw apple cider vinegar, raw local honey, tumeric, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper.
This concoction is an age-old recipe to help to support liver function, alkalize the digestive system, boost metabolism, aid blood pressure regulation, lower cholesterol, aid in digestion, reduce bloating, increase circulation ~ the list goes on!
Raw apple cider vinegar alone has sooo many health benefits...even taking this with warm, or room temp water, daily can boost your health! SO does lemon water ~ take your pick!
Yes, you do need to acquire a taste for this & of course you may need to modify the 'recipe' according to your own dietary needs, including any food allergies/sensitivities, and/or medications you may be taking ~ always best to check this out with your health care practitioners if you are at all uncertain.
Like many VATA dominant folks, I have high metabolism and need to eat filling, sustaining foods....AND regularly...or those near to me learn about the aptly named 'Hangry-ness" that will ensue !
I will share my go -to hot cereal creation ~ but of course, we all have different tastes and dietary needs. Therefore adapt as needed to your taste and needs....and if you are not a hot cereal guy/gal experiment with what types of morning foods you enjoy the most & sustain you the longest....we often just have to pay attention a little more and what is the best fit jumps out at us!
I first experienced this breakfast creation while on a 10 day Vipassana Meditation Retreat in England, many moons ago ~ after taking a vow of silence on Day 2, beginning each day at 4 am and exploring meditation throughout the day for ummmm 10 hrs a day....I needed this sustenance big-style!

Stewing the dried fruit in a bit of water releases all of their sweetness and lessens the need for any added sweetener.
AND...FIGS, PRUNES, APRICOTS in particular are great sources of insoluble fibre, phenols (anti-oxidants), potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, copper...vitamins A, K, and E.

A little tip when prepping your fruit ~ I like to use kitchen scissors ! So easy ! Whether you chop with a knife or snip with your scissors dried fruit gets sticky...place a little olive oil on your cutting/snipping tools and sticky-no-more!
Local and/or organic always what I aim for...however, not always available, or agreeable to the pocket book...don't let that stop you from experimenting with all the goodness that is available....local or not ...Turkish figs, are well...Turkish !!
