Are you a smoothie lover? Or always wanted to get in to making smoothies ?
For adults and children alike, smoothies are a great way to get a lot of healthy foods in to our system!!
Especially enjoyable in the warmer months...but also enjoyable in the winter also....maybe not so much for the Vatas out there....who tend to be on the chilly side already :)
I still go for it on a milder day, and when I have a toasty fire keeping my physical body & spirit warm !
Milder days are now upon us ~ YAY! for Spring & YAY! for Smoothies!!
The options are endless with smoothies ~ a quick share of another of my 'go-to' favorite.
I was a very good girl last year and was given a gift of a Vitamix blender last Christmas ~ gush!! Not to worry if this is not part of your kitchen appliance collection!! I used both a regular blender and/or a hand blender for many a year....just takes a wee bit more patience and experimentation.
What are my favorite ingredients ?
Carotenoids are soluble in fat, not water and present in many fruits & veg. SO, when you combine avocado with other fruits and veggies, the body absorbs even more of those carotenoids due to the high content of mon-sat fats in the avacodo ~ double whammy!!
Avocados also add a lovely creamy texture...the smooth in smoothie !
I have experimented a lot over the years with my diet, increasing awareness around my own constitution and in the process have learned what best supports my systems.
There is always more to learn, especially when our systems are under stress, we often discover our go-to's need to be adjusted....paying attention is the first place to start !!
Keeping a food journal is really helpful!
Seeking advice from a holistic clinical nutritionist is of great benefit when you are feeling unwell and/or overwhelmed as to where to get started.
You will learn along the way & empower yourself as your knowledge of your own body and foods increases over time ~
Living a life guided towards a greater state of harmony, we experience the ebbs and flows of life's adventures...discovering & defining our best individual diet is a process, Just like yoga asana, our food journey is also a process of getting to know ourselves better on all levels....gaining awareness not only of what foods are the best fit for us, but what are our perceptions and underlying beliefs are around food, diet, and habits...
Being an active participant in our own health & wellness is key...we are the directors of the biggest possible production ~ our lives!
Have fun creating your own spring smoothies !!
The 80-20 rule !?!
T. Krishnamacharya, the "Father of Modern Yoga", yoga teacher, ayurvedic healer and scholar shared through his oral teachings, passed down through his lineage of students, his support of the 80-20 rule in all aspects of life...including our diets.
He professed that when we live with self-awareness (Svadhaya) in our relationship with ourselves, others, our lifestyle and environments (social & physical alike) we unveil our inner knowing of what experiences support and nourish our existence....when we CHOOSE what propels us towards what feels good, joyful, peaceful, grounded.. 80% of the time...the other 20% of the time we can CHOOSE to veer from those experiences but are less negatively impacted by the outcomes because we have established strength in our all our systems ~ physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
I love the 80-20 rule.....I love feeling healthy, having energy for my children and all the things I have to & want to do in my life....
I also love to have a glass of wine..or two, have the occasional feed of fish n' chips, stay up late dancing the night away...whatever indulgences that call to me. These I experience also with self-awareness & I know when there is a stretch in to the 30-40 % range...and when its time to pull back on the reigns :)
